Near the ocean wonderful walking trails. Lot of fun for families, and couples too.
The older rooms lack insulation and have small beds.
The staff was efficient, friendly and relaxed, which helped me to relax upon arrival at Asilomar. The grounds are beautiful and interesting, with architectural history - stepping back in time with modern convenience. The setting is intimate but offers opportunity to meet new people and interact at shared meals. The beach is simply pristine, accessible, and gorgeous. Early morning and late afternoon walks were perfect. Finally, the room was amazing with its picture window and comfortable bed. It was clean to the detail, better most hotels I've stayed in for business travel. Well done to all at Asilomar. My family and I look forward to another visit soon. Thank you.
Honestly, everything met my expectations. I had requested a non-smoking room, two beds in a standard room, with a view if available. In spite of my late booking, these requests were satisfied. The size of the room and view of the forest and ocean (peep view) were more than I expected. I loved walking around the grounds, and the meals were bountiful and expertly prepared. The fresh fruit and homemade pastries topped it off. No, there was not anything that I did not like. My expectations were fully met. And that is rare! Regarding guest reviews, most seemed to like Asilomar or dislike it, not much in between. The "dislike's" seemed to be unrealistic in their expectations or just didn't understand what they were booking.
I loved one of the maids volunteering to get me some ice. She actually ran to doit. I loved that wilingness to please a guest. It's so rare now. My wife & I loved the spirit of the place -- the Forest Ranger, Roxanne Jacobus. It's a very dear place.
Fantastic location on Monterey coast, relaxed and quiet atmosphere, deer roaming on property
would like a/c in rooms, or fans at least
The location next to the Asilomar State Beach is outstanding! Yet just a 10 minute drive to Monterey and 20 minutes to Carmel.
Our family loves Asilomar... It's beautiful. Have a hearty breakfast, go for a walk at the state beach, shoot a game for pool in the lodge and your just five minutes from Monterey Bay aquarium. Simple rooms, but the location is with a million.
It is thr sort of place you find and realsies it was such a find ! its so relaxed its not exaclty like a hotel as one would expect, and at first we couldnt fathom what was going on..............but it has individuals like us staying as hotel guests in the various lodges and then aslo has groups on seminars , mainly the self help, yoga , well ebing type of seminars....................its is an amazing place the main lodge is just like somehting out of white xmas, huge log fire and arts and crafts furniture from the 1920s.................... theres a lovely bpoardwalk down the the beach vis the relcaimed sand dunes, its a nature reserve by the sea.....................the dining hall for breakfast is full of huge round tables andguest are encouraged to mix at breakfast. Breakfast is huge and great value. The staff are kind and curteuos/ I cant speak more high;ly opf this lovely oasis of calm...................theres a sweet small pool in the grounds too............. Id recomend doing the free handset and tour of the ground you self walk around and hear about the architecture....................... This is such a find I will be talking about it for ages when I get back to england................
Nothing, it was a sweet wonderfull oasis of calm after being in san francisco.......................we had deer sleeping under our window inthe heat of the day.....................its charming , and great value on that monterey coastline
The room with traditional wooden furniture, the ocean view, the Asilomar park around, the beach, the fireplace, the rich American breakfast Simply the best hotel in two weeks of holidays in California and not the most expensive one.
beach access friendly clean quiet wonderful setting nature
That the nice wooden houses were scattered around a big tranquille naturegarden along the seaschore. Fine food. Free parking.
Dining at shared tables.
The history of the buildings. They are restored and beautiful. So are the grounds.
We like nature and the ocean, there's trails to go to the beach, very good location.
Beautiful grounds surrounded by pine trees. Easy walk to the beach. Convenient store for any forgotten items. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Rooms were large too. Breakfast was good. Round tables encouraged conversation with table mates. Very quiet surroundings and friendly people. No tv meant time to read or take walks. Nice pool. Great value for the budget minded price.
We didn't have a problem with the style of the rooms but if you're expecting luxury, this is not the place to come.
Value for money : rather expensive for what you get! They add a resort fee even if you stay only one night and have no time to utilise them. Breakfast was very poor : little choice and very unpleasant dining room. I will not recommend this hotel.
Superb location right on the beach. The staff is very professional and went out of their way for us. On site meals were very good. Parking is free, easy, and close to rooms. Nice, large grounds to stroll and just across road from beach. Julia Morgan architecture is historical and everywhere. The Social Hall is large and very inviting with its fireplace, pool tables, and free wi-fi.
